Hello, my name is Sara Shields. I have been a lecturer at Texas State University since 2016. I currently teach Web Design, Media Design and Visual Storytelling in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I began my Texas State journey in 2011 when I moved to San Marcos and decided to pursue an education in Public Relations. In 2015, I graduated in the spring and started graduate school in the fall. During my graduate studies, I was a graduate teaching assistant teaching labs for FDOM. A year later, I started teaching sections of my own class in Web Design and Publishing. I graduated in 2017 with my Masters degree in Digital Media.

Right after grad school, I started working full time as a Digital Marketing Manager in the restaurant and entertainment industry. Some of the main responsibilities I had were managing the websites and social media, filming and editing commercials for broadcast and online, creating design collateral like menus, flyers, and digital content. After almost a year, I received a job offer to work in the music industry for an artist management company as a full time Digital Content Manager. This role involved me filming and editing concerts, creating concert flyers, promotions and digital content as well as desiging and managing a large roster of artists websites. After an exciting time working both these jobs, I am now working full time at Texas State University teaching.

One of my favorite things to do is travel. My favorite way of travel is roadtripping. Although it can be extremely tiring with very long distances, I really enjoy traveling at my own pace and being able to stay at campgrounds and wake up in the mountains or canyons. Some of my favorite places I have traveled are: Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New York and Saint Kitts in the Caribbean. I document almost all my adventures through filming. Some of my favorite gear to use on trips is my GoPro, Sony A7SII, and Mavic Air Drone.
